Review
Ye may have heard of the latest motion picture sensation running rampart in the theaters called “The Good Doctor.” It’s a tale of a young medic, Dr. Martin Blake, who is driven to desperate measures in order to impress his superiors and win the affection of his patient. The yarn spins around the challenges that Dr. Blake faces as he attempts to maintain his veneer of respectability while pandering to his patient’s every whim.
The plot transports us back to ye olden days when doctors were revered like gods and their words taken as gospel. This movie captures the classic charm that is inherent in all period pieces, with magnificent sets and costumes that transport you back in time.
The movie stars Orlando Bloom as Dr. Blake, who gives an outstanding performance as a protagonist manipulated by love and desire, leading him to take actions that would make any sane person blanch. A quote from Bloom during an interview sums up his character’s psyche brilliantly – “In some ways, I feel like Martin represents what we all try to hide.”
Bloom’s acting prowess is on full display as he seamlessly shifts between playing a caring doctor with a smile on his face to a darkly manipulative one with malice in his heart. He brings life and depth to the character that is rarely seen in modern cinema.
The supporting cast consists of seasoned actors like Rob Morrow and J.K. Simmons who deliver marvelous performances throughout the movie. Riley Keough also deserves special mention for her fantastic portrayal of Diane Nixon, Dr. Blake’s love interest.
The musical score is another high point of this movie, it perfectly emulates the ambiance with its classical arrangements which are well suited for this period piece.
Filming took place across Los Angeles over just 20 days according to IMDB; however, it’s hard to believe given how polished everything looks on screen. One particular scene set against an early morning mist took my breath away with its sheer beauty.
The movie has gained widespread popularity among audiences and critics alike since its release in 2011, and it’s easy to see why. The story is well-crafted, the acting is top-notch, and the cinematography is breathtaking.
The film was directed by Lance Daly, who masterfully crafts a world that manages to be both romantic and sinister at the same time. He takes his time revealing the mysteries of Dr. Blake’s psyche while keeping us on edge with his unpredictable behavior.
“The Good Doctor” has received praise for its visual storytelling, which combines vivid cinematography with an inspired script. This tightly woven narrative demands your full attention from start to finish.
The movie was selected for the Tribeca Film Festival back in 2011 and received several award nominations including Best Narrative Feature; however, it fell short of winning any major awards.
Critics have praised the movie for its persistent pace that never lets up and captivates viewers’ attention throughout its runtime. The characters are fleshed out beautifully with their unique quirks which make them all stand out from one another.
A special mention must also go to the editing team for their flawless work that keeps scenes moving at a brisk pace without being too choppy.
Overall, “The Good Doctor” is a must-watch for anyone seeking captivating narratives with intricate characters played by talented actors. It’s an engrossing tale of love and obsession that explores themes of morality and ethics in a compelling way.
