I recently had the pleasure of viewing the film “Infamous”, and my heart was left fluttering with excitement. At first, I was hesitant as it is not often that a movie sets me on fire like this one did. However, by the end, I was left feeling entirely enamored.
The storyline in Infamous revolves around a woman named Arielle, played by Bella Thorne. She is an aspiring Instagram influencer who captures the heart of a struggling writer named Joel (Jake Manley). Joel soon becomes infatuated with her and begins to document their whirlwind romance online. The film explores their relationship and its effects on both of them.
As an Austen fanatic, I couldn’t help but see parallels between Infamous’s plot and some of my favorite novels by Jane Austen. Their romance is much like that of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice or Marianne Dashwood and Colonel Brandon from Sense and Sensibility.
One quote that stood out to me in the film was when Arielle explained her philosophy on life: “Life is all about taking risks. You have to risk everything to get anywhere.” This quote spoke volumes to me as someone who has always been hesitant about taking risks. It reminded me that sometimes, stepping out of one’s comfort zone can lead to great things.
The acting in Infamous was top-notch, with Thorne delivering a convincing performance as a social media influencer obsessed with fame. Manley also did an excellent job portraying Joel’s internal conflict as he grapples with his feelings for Arielle.
One fascinating fact about the film is that it was shot entirely during COVID-19 lockdowns in California. This further speaks to the dedication of the cast and crew toward creating something unique during these uncertain times.
