It was a cool and cloudy day in London when I first laid my eyes on the movie, “Before, Now & Then”. I was intrigued by its title and decided to venture forth into the world of cinema to find out more about this intriguing piece.
Directed by the enigmatic John Doe, “Before, Now & Then” takes us on a journey through time. It is a movie that tells a story of love, loss and redemption. Set in the heart of London during the early 1900s and present-day, it is a tale that effortlessly captures the essence of our time-honoured traditions while staying true to our contemporary reality.
The film’s storyline centres around the character of William (played by Ryan Gosling), a young man who has lost his wife in an accident. Suffering from grief and tormented by his past, he finds solace in his work as an artist. One day, while working on his latest piece, he meets Anna (played by Anne Hathaway), a woman who works at the Art Museum where he is showcasing his work.
As William and Anna grow closer together, they discover something about their past that begins to unravel their lives. They realise they are connected in ways they never could have imagined before.
